Before and After: Chair

Way back in May, I shared some photos of the awesome things I found at Antique Weekend in Round Top, TX. One of the items was an old chair.

Our plan was to recover the seat with a fun fabric and leave the weathered look of the wood. Well, we finally got around to it. I found a super cute fabric (Herringbone in Pond) online at Hawthorne Threads. I left the actual task of recovering to my husband who has a little more experience than myself. I like the contrast of the crisp blue fabric against the worn brown frame. I couldn’t be happier with the result!

Trends We Love: Black and White

Lately, my Pinterest boards have been filling up with rooms decorated in black and white. It’s a classic combination that instantly becomes even more interesting with the right mix of textures and patterns. I especially love a black and white room with just a small splash of bold color that really pops.

No matter what style you prefer, from country to modern, integrating varying shades of blacks, whites and grays is sure to result in an elegant living space.

I’ve rounded up a few items from CB2 to show how effortlessly this trend can come together to create a room your friends will envy.

1) Bridge Architecture and Landscape Prints – Set of 2; 2) Elevated 18″ Pillow, Knit Sweater 23″ Pillow, Pin-up Black and White 18″ Pillow; 3) Trio Floor Lamp; 4) Nucha Vases; 5) Dual Pebble Sectional; 6) Reprouvé Coffee Table; 7) D-constructed Throw; 8) Family Black and White Rug

Pallet Frenzy

Turning regular old pallets into something new and amazing has been quite a trend lately. And I am all for this trend. If you tell me that I can update something old and inexpensive and turn it into something modern and amazing, I am all over it.

The summer here in Texas has been miserably hot. But with fall fast approaching, I am dreaming of a patio in which to enjoy the soon to be cooler weather that we got a glimpse of this weekend. Our backyard will be a work in progress for a while unless we win the lottery sometime soon, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy an evening sitting on the patio with a glass of wine when it’s too dark to notice the current, dreadful state of our yard. Right?

Well, at this point, I have nothing to sit on out there. And that’s where my dream of a pallet makeover comes in. I’m in the process of convincing Alex that this would be a great affordable start to a patio, I’ve dug up a few photos of pallet seating for inspiration/encouragement.

I just love this pallet swing!!! That’s it…I’m adding a pallet makeover to my ever growing list of projects.

The living room feels more cozy. The garage feels much bigger.

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks around here. I haven’t managed to find time to update this blog, but somehow, I did manage to paint the bookcases. Remember these bookcases that have been sitting in the garage for months? Yep, finally got them painted, out of the garage and into the house. I painted them an antique white to match the trim and the built-in bookcase already in the room. I wanted them to feel like built-ins but it’s nice to know that we can take them with us if we ever decide to move. The living room feels so much better now. Still big, but a lot more cozy.

Here’s a before shot of the living room without the bookcases.

And here’s what it looks like now.

I know the change doesn’t seem very dramatic, but it definitely feels different when in the room. There is still a lot of work to be done, such as actually put books on them. Our next plan of attack is to knock down the awkwardly placed built-ins next to the fireplace. (We plan to leave the smaller built-ins not shown in the photos). Then we will paint and hang things on the wall. I’m really optimistic we will have it all done soon. We just have to stay focused…and caffeinated.

Etsy Finds

I know I’m not alone when I say that I love Etsy. I could spend all day browsing through the various Etsy shops. This week, I’ve gathered a few items I think are pretty darn cool.

Here is a dresser made of salvaged wood from an 1800’s barn. I love the use of old wood in a modern design. Unfortunately this shop doesn’t currently have anything for sale, but have no fear, you can also buy the same items here.

I just love these hanging vases from wendyjung. With so many different items that could be placed in them, it’s an easy way to change up a room from season to season.

I want one of these very badly!!! When I look at this not only do I see a gorgeous piece of furniture I see the best possible solution for junk drawer organization. Think about it, paper clips in one drawer, pens in another, rubber bands in yet another. I could go on and on. I’d have the most organized office ever!! This shop has plenty of other apothecary cupboard size options as well.

Isn’t this adorable? What a cute idea from Ruff House Art.

If anyone has recommendations for Etsy shops that I just have to check out, let me know. I love a good Etsy find!
