It’s starting to look a lot like somebody lives here.

That’s because our living room walls are becoming less and less bare. Wahoo! We still have yet to tackle the gallery wall, but we’ve hung things on every other wall in the room and that makes me giddy with excitement.

The Etsy prints finally have a home.

And so do these wall shelves that we scored (totally free!) a couple of years ago. For now, we just threw a couple of things on them so that we didn’t have empty shelves hanging on the wall. Do you like that big white hand we found at Home Goods for only $10? Because I do. I love it!

Ok, now I know you are completely jealous. I mean, hello, look at how awesome these are. My sister scooped these up for me at Round Top flea market in Austin since I wasn’t able to go myself. We do plan to paint them, but just couldn’t wait to hang them.

Just getting a few things up on the walls has made the living room feel so much cozier. Exactly what I was wanting.

My very own Etsy shop

I know I’ve mentioned my love for Etsy a time or two by now. And finally, I am officially part of the Etsy community. I just set up my very own Etsy shop. There isn’t much to it yet, but I plan to add more very soon. Of course, I came up with this idea over a year ago, and am just now getting around to it, so “soon” is being used very loosely here :)

Until we bought this house, I never stayed in one apartment or rental for very long. So I was always coming up with ideas for wall art that were inexpensive, but still added some color or visual interest to a room. Add that to the frustration of having to tear apart a puzzle that took you forever to complete (because I’m definitely not framing it), and voila! You get a painted puzzle to hang on your wall.

I am also planning to add revamped furniture items. Notice I didn’t say “soon” this time.

The hubs has done it again

This isn’t the first time I’ve bragged about my uber-talented husband (read here), and I can guarantee you it won’t be the last. This time he has designed some oh-so-sweet posters for a local music venue. And not just any music venue. It just so happens to be family owned.

My sister hosts house concerts in her backyard, using her very own Domino Hall as the backdrop. It’s a very intimate setting for watching local and national musicians perform. Alex (the hubs) decided this venue would serve as a great inspiration for some poster designs and a great way for his sister-in-law to promote her venue. And he was right. These posters won a gold medal at the 2011 DSVC show.

You will be able to purchase these on Etsy soon. But in the meantime, feel free to let me know if you are interested in owning one or more, and I will make it happen. Oh, and visit his website to see even more great work.

The Big 3-0

It’s official. My twenties are over. My birthday was last week, July 3. Due to the continuous birthday celebrations (mine and America’s), I never got a chance to share with you how I spent this momentous occasion. Better late than never, right?

My day started with the best gift ever…sleeping in. Sometimes I miss those younger (kid free) days when I could sleep until noon without a care in the world. But now, the more mature version of myself sees that as a huge waste of a day. But of course, given the opportunity to get a little extra sleep, I took full advantage and slept until 8:30 AM. (Lame-o, I know).

My boys then treated me to a very delicious brunch at a local restaurant. This was very daring on my hubby’s part considering this is a white table cloth type of place and we have a crazy 18-month-old. Oscar was so confused as to why this white fabric was covering up the table. He was getting very angry at it and folding it over so he could see the table underneath. Fortunately, my boys love nothing more than breakfast. So as soon as the food came, everyone behaved (for the most part), and I was able to enjoy my Grand Marnier French Toast and a cranberry mimosa.

After brunch, we returned home to open presents. Alex bought me an Anthropologie gift card (love!) and two posters from an Etsy shop called strawberryluna. We’ve been looking for art for our bare living room walls. I found this shop a few months back and thought the designs were adorable. He remembered and chose these two posters.

I love them. The colors couldn’t be more perfect for the living room. There will definitely be a post in the near future showing where we decide to hang them.

After presents, it was nap time. The kids both took naps and so did I. That mimosa really knocked me out. I’M SO OLD!!!!

After naps, we all enjoyed a piece of this strawberries’n’cream cake. Yum-o!

We then packed up and headed to my brother’s house. I failed to mention that a few days before my b-day, my mother celebrated her retirement, and my entire family was in town – all five of my siblings and their families. We decided to have a family cookout and do some swimming. So the rest of my birthday looked a little something like this…

My family being in town threw a slight kink in Alex’s original plans for my b-day. So this past weekend, he treated me to a night out, just the two of us. We did a little shopping (had to use my Anthropologie gift card!), enjoyed dinner at a nice Greek restaurant, and saw Greg Behrendt perform at the Improv. Hilarious!

Oh, and since my in-laws agreed to take the kids for the night, both Alex and I got to sleep in…until 10:00 AM! Go us!
P.S. I forgot to mention I also received a very special surprise from my BFF in Boston. You can check it out here.

Etsy Finds

I know I’m not alone when I say that I love Etsy. I could spend all day browsing through the various Etsy shops. This week, I’ve gathered a few items I think are pretty darn cool.

Here is a dresser made of salvaged wood from an 1800’s barn. I love the use of old wood in a modern design. Unfortunately this shop doesn’t currently have anything for sale, but have no fear, you can also buy the same items here.

I just love these hanging vases from wendyjung. With so many different items that could be placed in them, it’s an easy way to change up a room from season to season.

I want one of these very badly!!! When I look at this not only do I see a gorgeous piece of furniture I see the best possible solution for junk drawer organization. Think about it, paper clips in one drawer, pens in another, rubber bands in yet another. I could go on and on. I’d have the most organized office ever!! This shop has plenty of other apothecary cupboard size options as well.

Isn’t this adorable? What a cute idea from Ruff House Art.

If anyone has recommendations for Etsy shops that I just have to check out, let me know. I love a good Etsy find!
