Simon Says: Your face

One of the best things about having an almost 5-year-old is listening to the things they say. And when it comes to Simon, he sure says a lot. Nobody else would know this because he’s painfully shy around anyone other than his immediate family, but he lets loose in the comfort of his own home and gives us an earful. Sometimes this can be exhausting, but often times, it’s very entertaining. However, on occasion, it leads to late night conversations between the hubs and I as we evaluate our parenting.

The other day, Alex, Simon and I were in the middle of a very intense game of Headbandz. (SIDENOTE: For any parents of young kids out there, Headbandz is actually a fun game to play. I highly recommend it.) Anyway – talking about letting loose – in the middle of the game Simon “toots.” This is the word our son has chosen to use, so I’m putting it in quotes.

Usually we just ignore this type of thing so as not to encourage potty humor, but I just couldn’t help myself and had to say, “Geez, Simon, you smell.” And without missing a beat, our sweet little boy says, “Mommy, do you know what else smells…. your face.”

  1. Hahaha! LOVE IT! I thinks that’s “advanced” for a 5 year old.
